The match for this trophy which is played between the respective holders of the Middlesex Sunday Premier and Sunday Intermediate Cups, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, was staged by Bedfont Sports FC on Tuesday evening. Broadfields United, the Premier Cup winners, were successful in a very competitive match against Broadway Celtic, through a single goal scored just after the half time interval by Man of the Match, Simeon Fearon.

Play was largely confined to midfield during the first half with Marcus and Simeon Fearon being prominent for Broadfields United. The first real opening on either goal didn’t come until the 42nd minute when Ricky Dash blazed his shot wide when well placed.

However, Ricky redeemed himself almost immediately when he made a good run through the middle of the Celtic defence and fed Simeon Fearon whose shot was well saved.

Half time score: Broadfields United 0 Broadway Celtic 0

The winning goal was scored in the 48th minute when Simeon Fearon collected Jack Zakora’s clever pass and slipped the ball past Onisini Princhici in the Celtic goal.

Although Broadway Celtic dominated play throughout the second period and had several more chances there were no further goals. Goalscorer Simeon was put through by his brother Marcus Fearon in the 55th minute but had his shot well saved. Then, a minute later, a good move involving both Fearons and Ricky Dash was just foiled by the Celtic defence.

Onisini made an excellent one handed save from Simeon in the 68th minute. Central defender Ryan Hendry came forward to try his luck in the 83rd minute but his angled shot passed just wide of the far post. 3 minutes later, Simeon went close, following another good Broadfields passing movement and Onisini saved well from Marcus in added time.

The only time that United keeper Craig Nicholson was extended in this half was by a shot from Philip Morgan after 69 minutes.

Result: Broadfields United 1 Broadway Celtic 0

The trophy and medals were presented by Middlesex FA Life Vice President and County and club stalwart, Graham Hiseman.

We were delighted that the Bedfont Sports Club was able to stage this match at its excellent new complex. A big thank you is due to Dave and Terry Reader and their backroom team. They were impeccable hosts.

Referee Sebastian Podsadny controlled the game faultlessly, well assisted by Dave Reeve, Andrew Brooker and reserve official, Lee Williams.
