Broadway Celtic made it through to the quarter finals of the Middlesex County Cup with a hard fought over fellow Hendon League rivals Dutch Lions at Northwick on Sunday. The 1st half was an even affair 1st half with few chances though the complexion of the game changed on the half hour mark when the heavens opened and the autumn sunshine gave way to a monsoon of biblical proportions. The 2 teams wasted no time in getting back out on the pitch during a rain drenched interval and Broadway almost grabbed the games opening goal within a minute of the restart when Ex St Andrews defender Ovidu Roman shot wide as Broadway signaled their intention to finish the game off in normal time. Broadway though could not find a way past the Dutch Lions defence in normal time so extra time would be needed to decide the tie.
Extra time was only a minute old when Ovidu Roman's testing cross was converted past his own keeper by a Dutch Lions defender to give Broadway the lead. Dutch Lions tried in vain to find an equaliser but they could find no way past Broadway's man of the match central defender Dave Gordon who seemed always to be in the right place at the right time as the Cricklewood side held out for hard fought win much to the delight of manager Steve Fortune. Broadway will now face the reserve side of Middlesex Premier Cup champions Barnes Albion in the quarter final on the 10th January 2010.
